Charlottesville Downtown Mall
Charlottesville Downtown Mall was a plaza renovation project that we began in November of 2008 and finished in July 2009. The scope included the replacement of the brick paver within the historic pedestrian mall in the heart of Charlottesville, VA. Imperial Stone Paving was responsible for the installation of over 120,000 sqft. of brick pavers and 5,000 sqft. of granite pavers. In addition to the size of the project and the condensed schedule, the challenge was that the mall is lined on both sides with shops, restaurants, and various other businesses. All of our work had to be closely coordinated with the Construction Manager, Barton Malow, and the City of Charlottesville to ensure minimal disruption to the business and pedestrians. Imperial Stone Paving was also under contract for the site furnishings throughout the pedestrian mall. This scope included providing new chairs, benches, recycling and litter receptacles, cast iron planters, and cast iron tree grates. Part of the site furnishings scope included refurbishing the existing cast iron pots and benches through sandblasting them and powder-coating. After the completion of the Downtown Mall Renovation, Imperial Stone Paving went on to win three more contracts with the City of Charlottesville including the 2nd Street and 5th Renovation projects, bringing the total amount of installed pavers to 146,000 sqft.
